The majority of us are super busy and occupied with multiple responsibilities in life that we forget to take time out to ourselves to attend and fulfill our own needs. Often times we get caught up with unnecessary and unproductive things that do not benefit our well-being in any way whatsoever.

What is self-care?

Self-care is taking action to protect one’s own well-being and happiness, particularly during periods of stress to improve your overall health.

Why is self-care so important?

Self-care is an effective way to give you a break and relieve stress.

Here are a few positive ideas for self-care:

1. Get a facial

Close your eyes and get pampered. Getting a facial helps your skin to be healthier and look more radiant. What makes getting a facial more pampering is someone else doing it for you.

2. Take a bath

Relax and unwind. Find the right water temperature, add your favorite bath essentials, and soak that body. A bath will help your sore or tight muscles to relax.

Try reducing the amount of light and add candles instead to create a calmer atmosphere

3. Read a book

Stimulate your mind with a good book, and perhaps learn something new. Reading keeps your brain young and can reduce stress.

4. Go for a walk

Get out and smell the fresh air. Walking is a great way to explore outdoors and to improve your overall health.

Take care of your body!

Messages come with such great benefits. Studies show that it is an effective way of reducing stress, pain and muscle tension.

Shopping helps some people to feel more in control, a distraction from negative feelings, or simply boost your mood to feel happier.

Writing in a journal is a great way of reflecting or expressing yourself. Putting your thoughts and thinking onto paper is beneficial for improving your mental clarity and overall focus.

16. Make yourself DIY face/body scrubs

Making homemade scrubs for yourself is healthier because you know exactly what’s in it. When you make your own scrubs, it’s fun and cheaper.

This might sound like a silly idea but research shows that drinking a cup of tea is soothing and can relieve the harmful effects of stress.

Spend your free-time by doing something that you enjoy. This could be sewing, painting, baking, card games, puzzles, or DIY homemade items. Hobbies help to clear your mind, reduce stress, and promote social interaction.

25. Say NO!

Saying no to someone can be harsh but it depends on the relationship you have with the other individual. You’re not intentionally trying to hurt the other person’s feelings but do it because you respect yourself enough.
